Roger Williams. Built by Budd for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad (NYNH&H) as an experimental set in 1957, “The Roger Williams” is an high-speed train set that largely used the existing design of the RDC (Rail Diesel Car) to create a six-car air conditioned train with cabs at both ends to facilitate rapid turns at terminals. The train included small traction motors that operated on third rail to allow for operation into Grand Central Terminal and operated across various routes in New England, thought not as a single train, into the Amtrak era. In 2023, the RDC Foundation, which assembled the three remaining cars, worked with the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum to move the set to Lenox, Massachusetts. On July 20, 2024, the Roger Williams set will be at Canaan Railroad Days, joining Housatonic Railroad RS3m HRRC 9935 and other displays and activities. The BSRM's Lenox location is housed in a former NYNH&H station on the Housatonic Railroad that is open to the public on Saturdays, check with the museum for operating hours.
