Remarks & Notes
Cogwheel locomotive He 2/2 # 62 "Alpenrose" of the 80 centimeter gauge Schynige Platte-Bahn (SPB) is entering Breitlauenen with the first part of train 656 from the Schynige Platte down to Wilderswil. The locomotive was built in 1912 for the Wengernalpbahn by SLM and Alioth and came to the SPB in 1991. When travelling downhill, the SPB locomotives have the pantograph lowered to minimize wear on the contact strips and contact wire. The heat from the resistors of the electric brake is released into the mountain air. Cab doors and a flap on the side are open for better heat dissipation.
