Passing freight at Vandervoort. Holding for servicing in the little yard at Vandervoort, Arkansas, near Milepost 401.6, the CPKC's "Final Spike Steam Tour" train is about to be passed by a northbound freight. Although the tour by the pretty CP Hudson #2816 was getting all of the attention, the trains that pay the bills still had all of the priority. On each leg of the journey, the "Empress" was making 2-3 servicing stops, many of which located at convenient passing sidings and timed to allow the passage of the revenue freights. When this image was captured, the servicing on the big 4-6-4 had been completed and the train literally began its departure as soon as the pushers on the south end of this freight had cleared the switches.
