Remarks & Notes |
Located on McKellar Island in Thunder Bay, Ontario is Thunder Bay Terminals Limited which was built to transfer bulk cargo from Western Canada delivered by CN & CP trains to "lakers" and "salties" for forwarding across the great lakes and overseas. The ship "Vezhen" had just docked in the morning waiting on 200 cars of potash to arrive the following day. Meanwhile a CPKC 152 car Teck Resources coal train is in the process of being dumped while 123 cars of petroleum coke double up after being dumped overnight from Regina, SK (23 cars) and Roseport, MN (100 cars). The Minnesota pet coke has been a new customer for the past few years using a UP-CN route to the port almost always using foreign power. Over a decade ago Ontario Power Generation operated a coal fired thermal power plant fed from the terminal and coal trains were much more common often getting a pair together from CN and CP. |
