Heading to San Diego from Goleta, Amtrak San Diegan 774 makes its stop in Santa Ana. Five-month-old Dash 8-40BP 810 leads this train this day, pulling six Amfleet cars, a baggage car and F40PH 293. Apparently, the carrier was not yet 100% confident in these new GE diesels, hence the F40PH on the other end. The station has not yet had the pedestrian walkway added, nor the platform on the east side of the mainlines. (Santa Ana, California – November 1993)
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
