The only time the Providence and Worcester's brown and orange ex. Santa Fe dash 8's have ever been paired together for a passenger train was in July 2016. A passenger extra was run for the Boston Surface Rail Company; a company that only existed on paper and never came to fruition. The company's main focus was to bring passenger service to the P&W's mainline operating between the railroad's namesake cities, with station stops along the way. The passenger equipment would be supplied by the BSRC with P&W power and crews operating the trains. However, due to a lack of positive votes, this fell apart well before it even started. But, I took advantage of the oddball situation and grabbed a few frames of the train on it's journey back to Worcester.
P&W B40-8W's #4005 and #4006 lead the train. Picking up the rear is the only caboose left on the roster, P&W #5001, filling in for the railroads classy observation car that was in the paint booth for a fresh coat of brown and orange at the time.
Although most only provide freight service, regional railroads have passenger operations; not only executive trains but also charity events and excursions.
