New York City, 23 Years Later. On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Amtrak Acela Train 2290 was just starting to head to Boston, Massachusetts when it traveled over the Hell Gate Bridge in New York City with the Freedom Tower in the background. September 11, 2001 was a beautiful sunny summer morning much like this, before the unthinkable happened and this scene changed forever. Construction of One World Trade Center/Freedom Tower, which stands on the former site of 6 World Trade Center, began in 2006 and was completed in 2013.
