Celebrating 60 Years of the Brightliners. On September 9, 1964, New York City was able to see a train of brand new Budd built stainless steel R-32s operate for the first time, for the occasion on a unique run on the New York Central Railroad from Mott Haven to Grand Central Terminal. On Saturday, September 14, 2024, the cars were part of the New York Transit Museum “Celebrating 60 Years Of Brightliners” event, a pair of ticketed excursions from 96 Street-2 Avenue round trip via Coney Island with an on board yard tour. The consist included 3350-3351, the first pair to be built, and 3360-3361, which have had their doors repainted to the as delivered appearance and had a replica of the original banner added for the day. The train is seen climbing the grade from Bay Parkway to 20th Avenue Stations.
