Don't S-L-E-E-P On The Geeps. On Saturday, August 17, 2024, as part of 'Railfan Day' on the MassCostal/Cape Cod Central Railroad, former New Haven Railroad FL-9s MC 2011 (née-NH 2038) and 2026 (née-NH 2007) were coupled together on the east/south end of the coach train for three round trips during the event. But at the other end of the train was Mass Coastal GP38-2 2012 (ex-GMTX 2685, née MILW 199, GP40, EMD 10/1966) coupled to a pair of former MTA Long Island Rail Road C1 coaches (Mitsui/Tokyu, 1990-1991). While the FL-9s attract a significant amount of attention, it is the geeps that are the backbone of Mass Coastal's diesel roster. The 10 C1 cars spent a short amount of time on the LIRR, and after being assessed by the riders and employees of the railroad, ultimately developed into the larger 144-car Kawasaki C3 class, with which they are not compatible. After their withdrawal from service, some have found their way into tourist service, offering riders a fairly modern accommodation.
