Amtrak train 3, the westbound Chicago to Los Angeles Southwest Chief, arrived at Los Angeles Union Station at 8:59 am, 1 hour 2 minutes late. (It made up 18 minutes in the 26 miles between Fullerton and LA thanks to the miracle of schedule padding!). Amtrak P42DC 75, the sixth of (so far) nine P42s repainted into the Phase VII scheme, led this train, teamed with Dash 8-40BP 824, which is looking a bit ragged these days, especially on its other side. At 9:33 am the empty train backed out of Union Station's Track 9 to head south to Redondo Junction, where Amtrak services trains in LA. The equipment is seen passing by the no-longer in-service Terminal Tower as it backs out of the station, with the LA County MTA's A Line flyover on the train's other side.
