Constructed in April 2016 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division as Union Pacific SD70ACe 9026, the next year this locomotive was chosen by UP to be repainted and renumbered to UP 1943 as the company's 16th commemorative locomotive to honor the United States' armed forces and the men and women filling their ranks. Dubbed "Spirit of the Union Pacific" and repainted into this special paint scheme.
Seven years after it made its debut as the "Spirit of the Union Pacific," UP 1943 was leading UP train MRVLB 17 (Manifest; Roseville CA to Long Beach CA), along with UP 5856, 6079, 7043, 5355 and 5513. Once on the Pacific Harbor Line, the train made several moves as it broke up the train into smaller sections in PHL's Pier B Yard, near downtown Long Beach.
