I've taken a few shots from the overpass on the south side of Cottonwood, MN, but this is the first one I've got of a train in downtown. I figured the two GEVOs needed a little extra in the scene to make it more interesting. According to the water tower, the town was established in 1888, and trains have been rolling through since the Willmar & Sioux Falls completed the line in 1889 between its two namesake cities. The Willmar & Sioux Falls purchased the Sioux City & Northern in 1900, with the two having a connection in Garretson, SD. The Willmar & Sioux Falls was subsequently sold to the Great Northern in 1907, which of course became a part of Burlington Northern in 1970 and BNSF in 1995. I'm not sure if that makes the GEVOs more interesting, but I guess we'll just have to see what the next 135 years bring.
