Steam In The Woods. A miracle story of steam restoration, Western Maryland Scenic Railroad 1309 (née-Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad 1309, 2-6-6-2, Baldwin, 1949) was a regular part of the operating fleet of the WMSR on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. While it spends most of its time of the railroad's passenger trains, on certain days there was also the chance to purchase a "Hands On The Throttle" experience, during which the engine made a series of trips with guest engineers in the seat. While the sun was hard to locate, it worked for this shot in LaVale, Maryland passing through the Great Allegheny Passage. Though subsequently the locomotive was withdrawn from service for extended maintenance, it is expected to return soon.
