SBB Cargo leases 35 Siemens “Vectron” locomotives for 8 years from 2024 via the lessor NorthRail and financed by Bank Reichmuth in Lucerne. The first machines have now been in Switzerland for a few weeks and training of locomotive crews has begun at some locations. Scheduled freight trains are being hauled. 193 # 060 pulls freight train 61078 from Sion to the Lausanne marshalling yard, with stops in Martigny and St.Maurice to pick up wagons, between Chamoson-St.Pierre-de-Clages and Riddes. The locomotive for 15000 V 16.7 Hz AC weighs 86 tons, has an output of 6400 kW and is licensed in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. In Switzerland, a maximum of 120 km/h is permitted according to train series A. The full designation is: 91 80 6193 060-1 D-NRAIL. This 35 "Vectrons" will replace mainly the worn out Re 420 (Re 4/4 II) used by the Cargo division and have about 1/3 more traction power.
