Old Car, New Space. While PATCO (Port Authority Transit Corporation) was overhauling its fleet, it added an "acceptance building" on to expand its shop capabilities. On October 19, 2013, the highest numbered PATCO I cars 250-249 (Budd, 1968) were sitting in the new building and were bring used to test the new tracks. Less than a month later, the first cars would return from Alstom's Hornell, New York facility and begin acceptance testing. The rebuilds are easily distinguished from the original cars as the ends are no longer black but fully polished stainless steel. In 2018, the last of the non-rebuilt cars was removed from service and by 2019 all 120 of the rebuilt cars had been delivered and accepted.
