It’s a chilly autumn morning in the beautiful U.P. of Michigan as CN locomotives 5429 and 5400 are in charge of Canadian National’s L540 job. Here they are in view snaking their way out of Ishpeming along CN’s Marquette Range Division, enroute towards Partridge to do an interchange with the L549 job. L540 had tied down at Champion on the main the day prior while on its way back from L’Anse. They had finished the trip back from L’Anse to their usual starting point of Ishpeming at daybreak, then proceeded to switch Ishpeming Yard before heading to Partridge to do the usual interchange with L549. With L540 taking a little longer than usual, it allowed time for the sun to make an appearance from behind the clouds that had finally began to move away over Lake Superior just a short two minutes prior to L540’s arrival, making for some picture perfect morning sunlight.
