Remarks & Notes |
Armco Steel LS-1000 709 can be seen departing Metamora on the Valley Flyer which goes from Connersville to Metamora and back. The 709 was built at Lima Hamilton Corp in Lima, OH in March 1950. This weekend was Armco 709’s debut since restoration along with its sister Cincinnati Union Terminal 25 at the Whitewater Valley Railroad. The 709 operated in steel service until it was retired in the 1980’s. It was donated to the Whitewater Valley Railroad in 1987, and is one of only 4 surviving diesel Lima’s in the entire country. The Whitewater Valley has a third Lima and the fourth one is preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois.
