The South St. Paul, MN, to Des Moines, IA, freight train is down to about 20 minutes to work as they pull into Mason City off the Fairmont Sub. Surprisingly, this train doesn't take the Spineline out of St. Paul, but makes a long detour thru Mankato, St. James, Butterfield, and down the Fairmont to Mason. This crew came out of St. James, and will cab back. I'm not sure why UP is doing this, but I'm sure money has something to do with it. Here, the train crosses the Winnebago River in Yard Limits.
