Boarding At City Hall. Just like the passengers who boarded the very first Interborough Rapid Transit train 120 years ago today on October 27, 1904, attendees of the New York Transit Museum tour of the now closed City Hall Station board a local train to depart on January 20, 2008. This station's ornate Guastavino tiles and Tiffany glass were a part of the original design to attract passengers to ride the new system, but today can be seen only from on board the ride around the loop unless one attends this members only tour. The station was closed to revenue passengers in 1945 when platforms at other stations on today's Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway were extended to accommodate longer trains, but is well preserved today.
