A decade sure does fly by, 10 years ago CSX 8662 was a well known leader on the lines to Selkirk and beyond. Formerly a true Conrail Quality SD50 with marker lights and all was later rebuilt into a 50-3 and had modern equipment installed for road use including AC units ontop of the cab but sadly the markers removed. One of its last jobs was serving on a rail train in the spring of this year but now resides in East Syracuse, CSX DeWitt Yard doing switch work primarily for the intermodals. Yesterday afternoon the 8662 reversed out of the yard out onto track main 1 and waited for the switch inside the large CP-285 interlocking before crossing off the main back into the yard.
Seen to the left are the grounds once filled with numerous tracks of the former New York Central roundhouse, engine facility, and concrete coal towers which are still standing today.
