When I learned that the newly restored Boston & Maine GP9 1741 was leading the 470 Club trip on the first leg of the excursion to Conway, there was only one logical choice to shoot the train. Moat Brook Trestle is one of the signature spots on Conway Scenic Railroad and is part of the former Boston & Maine Conway Branch, home rails for this engine. Despite a forecast of full sun, big, dark clouds hung in for most of the morning. I really wanted this shot with full sun, but it was not meant to be. The 470 Club did a fantastic job restoring this engine and it is great to see a genuine Bluebird roaming the rails in 2024.
Beautiful mountain scenery has made this small state a draw for rail buffs to ride the Mount Washington Cog Railway and the Conway Scenic, among others.
