On Thursday, October 31, 2024 the Winchester and Western, seen here crossing Clark's Bridge over Back Creek west of Gainesboro, VA, ran a non-revenue run from the shops at Gore, VA to Winchester with nine empty 2 bay hopper cars in tow. These cars were part of a deadhead move back in late August. They have since been cleaned out, re-stenciled for OMTX and are destined for use at the Clorox Plant located south of Martinsburg, WV.
A little more history of the bridge itself...
Numbered 14A, it measures 96 feet in length with 3, 32 foot long girders. It was originally a 117 foot long thru frame trestle which was replaced with girders from one of the Cacapon River spans after the line to Wardensville was abandoned in 1934. The bridge again was rebuilt in 1978.
