Remarks & Notes
Redbirds Return To Main Street. There is a class of subway cars that holds a special place in the hearts of New Yorkers called “Redbirds”. As the MTA NYCT Subway was rebuilding and remaking itself in the 1980s, one of the problems it had to tackle was graffiti. After looking at a few options, under then President David Gunn, a bright red paint scheme with silver roofs accented by black was chosen for a number of cars, and its legacy lives on today. These cars recently celebrated 21 years of retirement from active service, but on November 9, 2024, a six-car train was assembled for a film shoot and visited the 7/Flushing Line for a day. After the work was completed, the train passed the home of the New York Mets, CitiField, in Flushing, New York, one of many scenes that has made these cars famous. The New York Transit Museum maintains these cars as part of its extensive historic fleet to continue to share the history of the NYC subway with future generations. Even after sunset, the sky has maintained a colorful hue because of several brush fires burning in the region.

A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
