AT&SF 2926: The front office. Here's a wide-angle view of the interior of the cab of Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Locomotive #2926. Given the size of this nearly one-million-pound machine, the cab layout is surprisingly simple and decidedly high-tech, including an MU box as well as Positive Train Control (PTC) equipment. The folks who restored this engine have clearly spent a lot of time thinking through all of the issues associated with taking a steam locomotive out on the main line in the 21st century, and the 2926 is clearly ready to take on that challenge when it comes. There are plans to operate the locomotive on state-owned trackage, which currently hosts the popular "Rail Runner" commuter trains between Albuquerque, NM and Santa Fe, NM.
