Now arriving from Gallup... In a possible preview of coming attractions, the massive Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe #2926 performs a short run-past at downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico's Alvarado Transportation Center as part of an October 2024 photo shoot hosted by Lerro Photography and New Mexico Heritage Rail. The big 4-8-4 completed a 20-year restoration to operational condition in 2021 and is eventually expected to enter excursion service on state-owned trackage, most likely on this very line, which is used by New Mexico's popular "Rail Runner" commuter trains.
The station pictured here is essentially the home the "Rail Runners", which run between Albuquerque and the cities of Belen and Santa Fe. The station also hosts Amtrak's famous "Southwest Chief."
Located on the grounds of the historic Santa Fe Railroad Station and Alvarado Hotel, the current structure was built in the early 2000s, but features the same, Mission-Revival styling of the original structures, which sadly no longer exist.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
A recent spike in a personal interest of the skill and work it takes to create and ultimately nail a shot in the dark using flash technology, leads to this album.
