"Green Like a John Deere Tractor" South Central Florida Express FPT-31 crosses old Vandergrift Road outside of Belle Glade, FL with SD40M-2 6325 and HLCX SD40R 6341. A railroad once dominated by four axle EMD power, the railroad has recently acquired several six axle locomotives for use on heavier trains.
Initially built for the Penn Central Railroad in 1968, the 6325 has seen service on Conrail, Chicago & North Western, and Tacoma Rail before being acquired by US Sugar. The locomotive was delivered in the company’s new green and yellow scheme, which will replace the current gray and yellow scheme found on the rest of the fleet. The 6341 still wears its patched Southern Pacific "bloody nose" paint scheme from the 1990s.
At least one more six axle locomotive, an SD40T-2, is expected to arrive some time in the near future, joining the four currently in service.
