Thanksgiving Sunday Extra. An unusual meet occurred on Sunday, November 25, 2012 when Amtrak Holiday Extra 1056 pulled in on Track 7 at New York Penn Station with MARC 4912 (HHP-8) for power. Even without a station sign visible in the station, the Empire Service P32AC-DM AMTK 715 sitting on Track 6 is an indicator of the unique location, the only underground station on the scheduled Amtrak Network with third rail. For many years Amtrak used a combination of its own cars and commuter equipment from MARC, SEPTA, and MBTA to provide an enhanced schedule during this busiest travel period of the year, but has not used commuter equipment since before the pandemic.
The Northeast Corridor cuts through four New York counties on its brief stretch to the Connecticut Line east of Port Chester. There are several photo opportunities along the route.
