Homeward bound. The late afternoon shadows are rapidly swallowing up the high desert landscape outside Antonito, Colorado, as the Cumbres & Toltec's vintage 10-wheeler #168 brings her consist of historic coaches over the last mile of train toward the railroad's eastern terminus. The train is pictured roughly half a mile west of the Highway 285 crossing in Antonito, near Milepost 281.4.

This image was captured during an October 2024 photo shoot on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, which on this day featured the 1883 Baldwin Class T-12, 10-wheeler #168, which is one of the oldest steam locomotives in regular operation in the US.
