This is the last turnout of Boulenouar (PK 96) on the east side. The 652-kilometre-long railroad line through the Mauritanian desert is single-track throughout, with crossing points for the trains, which are over 2 kilometers long, every 30 to 40 kilometers. There are no signals (only boards) and all the points are thrown by hand. Train traffic is controlled by radio by a dispatcher. The points are secured with a lock, which must first be removed and then replaced after switching. A local attendant is stationed at some points, while other points have to be changed by the locomotive crew. When traveling over the straight line, the large disc shows the engine driver green, otherwise yellow.
