“Now boarding the midnight train to nowhere” while not a mainline station like Atlanta or Macon, Milledgeville was still served by the old Central of Georgia Railroad and Georgia Railroad and Banking company up until the late 70s. 50 years later though the passenger trains are gone and so are the railroads that served the depot, with only Norfolk Southern being the only railroad that runs through town now with a nightly Gordon-Eatonton and back local. CSX used to run to an interchange less than a mile to the north, but the rails have sat idle since 2017, likely to never see a train again.
