Conrail North Jersey's Holiday Train In Bound Brook. The Conrail Shared Assets North Jersey Annual Holiday Train returned for a second year on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Norfolk Southern NS 8098 (Conrail Heritage, ES44AC) led New Jersey Transit NJTR 4208 (Conrail Heritage, GP40PH-2B), a Comet V car, two shoving platforms and a Conrail caboose. The train made stops for employees and their families to visit with Santa at Oak Island Yard in Newark, New Jersey and Port Reading Yard in Port Reading, New Jersey. Though it was a trailing locomotive, this was also the "road debut" of recently repainted NJTR 4208, which was built by EMD for Penn Central in 1968 and served the "big railroad" Conrail until being rebuilt in Altoona, Pennsylvania and sold to NJT for passenger service. The train is seen at the point where the Lehigh Line and the Port Reading Secondary meet to change directions before going to Port Reading.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
