Remarks & Notes
About 3 kilometers north of the railroad line through the Mauritanian desert lies the largest monolith in Africa, Ben Amira, the second largest in the world. Its height is given as 633 meters, but this is not true. It is around 550 meters high, rising about 370 meters out of the desert. Around 5 kilometers further on is the smaller monolith Aisha, around 220 meters above the desert. We are 10 kilometers east of Ben Amira station, the Ben Amira monolith (left) is 10 kilometers away, the Aisha (right) around 17 kilometers. The empty ore train V5 from Nouadhibou on the Atlantic to the mines near Zouérate is pulled by the diesel locomotives SDL40-2 CC # 114, SD70ACS CC # 125 and the SDL40-2 CC # 109 (in the original green livery). The train, which is around 2 kilometers long, has 7 filled water tank cars at the front, which were filled in Boulenouar at PK 96.
