Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 572, making its way from San Diego to Los Angeles, is radically different than the usual Surfliners: (A) It has a locomotive on each end, (B) each locomotive is a somewhat rare GE Dash 8-32BWH (only 20 were built, all for Amtrak), (C) this train is comprised of six former NJ Transit "Comet" cars, rather than the usual California Cars/Surfliner Cars, and, as a result (D) this train has no Business Class cars nor any cars with any sort of food service. Amtrak Dash 8-32BWH 503 leads this train, with California Department of Transportation (CDTX) coaches 5006, 5007, 5001, 5005, 5010 and 5012, and Amtrak Dash 8-32BWH 509 bringing up the rear. Several of the Surfliner cars have, of late, been having some issues and, coupled with higher holiday traffic between Christmas and New Year's Day, this equipment was pressed into service.
