On a very snowy Veterans Day (it's still just Autumn!), a pair of Metra commuter trains meet each other right on time as a passenger, who got off the westbound train (METX 1229, on the right), waits for the eastbound (METX 1264) to pass by. This is the stop for the Stone Avenue Station in Chicago's western suburbs, on BNSF's Chicago Sub, which is triple-tracked to handle the many BNSF freights, as well as a high numbers of Metra commuter trains connecting downtown Chicago with western suburb Aurora. These two trains are powered by EMD F40PHM-2s, and the cab cars are Nippon-Sharyo products. (La Grange, Illinois – November 11, 2019)
Chicago's huge commuter rail system incorporates routes previously operated by Chicago & Northwestern, Milwaukee Road, Burlington, Illinois Centrak, Rock Island, Gulf Mobile & Ohio and Wabash (N&W).
