In Mauritania, disused railroad equipment, be it vehicles or superstructure material, is usually not scrapped but left standing somewhere. Near Boulenouar, at kilometer 96 of the 652-kilometer-long iron ore line, this old diesel vehicle, called a draisine, still stands from the MIFERMA era. In front of it in the sand are a few masts with light signals that look quite new. The line does not yet have any light signals and traffic is controlled by radio.
