Meet Your Replacement. On the afternoon of November 29, 2024, the first new span (left) to arrive at the Hackensack River was in place for the new Portal North Bridge project in Kearny, New Jersey to replace the existing bridge (right) with the New York City skyline in the background. This multi-year project will completely replace the existing structure, significantly increase the capacity and speed of the line, which will also permit more frequent service. On January 15, 2025, the second span began its trip to this location.
