NS decided to run an “extra tonnage” move in the early afternoon out of Decatur and the power was supposed to be a pair of aging SD40-2s. How cool is that? A pair of SD40-2s racing out on the mainline, technically not on a local, in 2025. Not 300’ out of the engine shop, the 3388 decided to shut down on the crew. With a couple of failed attempts to fix and restart, the decision was to either swap it for the 3486 or run it with the 6085 solo, yet long hood forward. Luckily, a 3rd decision was made to just add the 3486 on the point. Sadly, with this stroke of luck of a 3rd SD40-2 being added, that meant there was no way it would make it out of Decatur in daylight. That was no match for me as I came prepared, having the flash gear with me!
A recent spike in a personal interest of the skill and work it takes to create and ultimately nail a shot in the dark using flash technology, leads to this album.
