Plow Train.During the previous day's record almost 2 feet of snow, MTA Metro-North Railroad service was suspended, along with service on the rest of the MTA. The next morning, MNCW 6217 leads a plow train through the Spuyten Duyvil Station in the Bronx, New York on Track 2. Track 1 (right) has already been cleared, which shows a comparison of the height of the snow, almost over the third rail.
The subject of service suspension often leads to protracted debates about the operation of the railroad itself, but there many factors to consider. Most people drive to the train, which creates issues on the road. The transportation system is dependent on all of its pieces working, so often commuters are depending on being able to take the train to or from New York City to another service that may not be available. And lawsuits against transportation providers when trains are stranded have become common, all considerations when making that decision.
