This train was dated a full day in advance, but is slowing for a recrew at Nicholls Street before heading to Jax. This spot is the old "Back Way" into Rice Yard before the major rehab that made it the mainline in 2007. You will hear the yard refer to Carswell Street when sending crew vans to the signal here. Nicholls Street is actually on the other side of the overpass, as is Rice Junction.
Oh...the snow? Yeah! It did happen overnight January 21 into the 22nd and lingered into the weekend, but the morning of the 22nd looked more akin to Bozeman, MT. This winter storm drew many Floridians to Waycross to experience this event, as it was in the direct line of the storm, which dropped up to 8 inches of the powder from Pensacola to the NE. Waycross was the southern edge of the projection and this turned out to be 100% as about 20 miles down the Jesup Sub towards Folkston the snow turned into ice, which clung to the trees, given them a frosted appearance.
