Dropping In Garrison. On Thursday, October 10, 2024, a pair of MTA Metro-North Railroad EMD GP35r locomotives, MNCW 106 and 104, were pulling a train of continuously welded rail on Track 1 around the tunnel just north of the Garrison, New York Station on the afternoon of a beautiful autumn day. The rail would be left at specified locations for replacement of existing rail. The eight 2,000hp GP35r units are the stars of the Metro-North work fleet, and can be called upon for everything from towing a stone train to rail trains to locomotives and cars with mechanical problems. Despite being fifty years old, they have been extensively rebuilt and will likely serve well for many more years.
