| There were only 23 GP40X's built. Union Pacific purchased six of them. These came with the HTB truck which were supposed to improve traction. These locomotives offered 3500 horsepower and were basically test beds for improvements in future GP40-2's and GP50's. The HTB truck was also offered on the GP50, but because these trucks were problematic, none were ordered that way. Here we see it in Kansas City in what looks to be in a pretty well worn condition. |
