With the Clinchfield out of service, coal trains for Duke Energy's Cliffside plant take a roundabout route from Atlanta to Monroe, then westward across the Charlotte Sub to Bostic, and then south to Cliffside. This routing has loads going opposite of the historical pattern on the Charlottes Sub. Here, loads for Cliffside cross Buffalo Creek westbound (timetable southbound) on the former SAL line.
