Phase VII Through Hastings-On-Hudson. Amtrak Train 290 (Ethan Allen Express) was led by AMTK 125 (P42DC, Phase VII) on the afternoon of Sunday, January 26, 2025, seen here approaching the MTA Metro-North Railroad Station in Hastings-On-Hudson. In the background, both towers of the new Tappan Zee Bridge are visible. Officially named the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, it stands an about five miles away in the Hudson River. The locomotive wears the newest Amtrak paint scheme, a lively combination of red, white, and blue that is applied to not only the new Siemens ALC-42s, but also the older GE P42s as they go through repair and overhaul at the railroad's Beech Grove shop. Though diesels were once a rare sight on Empire Service trains, they have become slights more common as current service requires additional power to double end trains in order to turn them on the platform in Penn Station, where vents are turned on to minimize the fumes.
