It's 105ºF (40.5ºC) and monsoonal clouds are building in the east as BNSF train H-KCKBAR9-11A (High Priority Merchandise; Kansas City KS to Barstow CA) crosses the Mojave Desert. This freight has an interesting power mix: A trio of Dash 9-44CWs in three schemes (4484 in fresh "Bold Heritage" paint, although with a pair of doors from the earlier "Heritage II" scheme and a "Superfleet"-era red air conditioner as well, 5235 in "Heritage II" and 768 in "Superfleet" red and silver), ES44AC 6333 ("Bold Heritage"), GP60B 332 (in "Bold Heritage") and SD60M 1443 (still in BN "Cascade Green," but recently renumbered). Lead locomotive BNSF 4484 became Canadian National 1844 in August 2023; then it was GECX 1844 as of May 2024, and was later rebuilt by GE-successor Wabtec into an AC44C6M, and operating as CN 3358. You can see the train stretched out behind the power on the large S-curve here. (Ludlow, California – June 13, 2015)
