Street Running And Ships. On the evening of Wednesday, April 24, 2019, Conrail Shared Assets (CSAO) SP20 was making moves on South Christopher Columbus Boulevard near Commons Drive to serve waterfront customers with original Conrail, now Norfolk Southern GP40-2 3013 (née-CR 3300, 5/1977) and GP38-2 5640 (née-PC 7939, GP38). In the background, the SS United States, both the largest ocean liner ever constructed entirely within the United States (1950-1951) and still owner of the fastest trip across the Atlantic for an ocean liner. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the SS United States was moved from its home since 1996 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, en route to Mobile, Alabama for preparation and ultimately Okaloosa County, Florida, where news reporting states that it is planned to be turned into the world's largest artificial reef. The move had been postponed several times due to various factors such as weather and the need for a high tide to move this large vessel. The SS United States Conservancy, which had been formed to attempt to save the ocean liner, did note that at least the ship would not be scrapped and would be serving a useful purpose.
