Remarks & Notes |
M326 traverses the swing bridge at St. Joseph Michigan. The 2 Engines and 77 cars head for Grand Rapids from Barr Yard in Chicago along a very scenic Michigan Lake Shore. This particular Swing Bridge was built by the Pere Marquette Railroad in 1904. This is the Third bridge to cross the river at this location. The First was opened in 1870 by the Chicago & Michigan Lake Shore Railroad. It was replaced in 1887 by the Chicago & West Michigan Railroad.
CSX now maintains and operates the bridge to accommodate maritime traffic and trains alike. The bridge remains open for shipping until at train approaches. |
