Remarks & Notes |
Waterfront Connection Service: A late afternoon Bay Head to Hoboken, NJ diesel express train takes Track #2 eastward opposite the typical direction of travel at South Amboy on account of track work. At the time, this train was the last daily weekday direct train to Hoboken on the North Jersey Coast Line. Direct trains to Hoboken on the North Jersey Coast Line became a thing of the past with the introduction of the dual-purpose locomotives that allowed trains from Bay Head to head directly into New York Penn Station. While a few of these “Waterfront Connection” trains remained during the 2010s, by 2020, service to Hoboken on the line was abolished. South Amboy was massively reconfigured a few years after this photo with the station going from 3 tracks down to 2 tracks and the installation of a center high level island platform. |
