Power at the Portal.
Metro-North Railroad P32AC-DM no. 222 is seen blasting out of the Park Avenue Tunnel portal at E 97th St as a well-timed - or poorly-timed, depending on perspective - M7A train enters. The locomotive is the railroad's newest heritage unit, sporting the pre-war paint scheme of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, which ran commuter service between New York and New Haven, New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury, as well as extensively throughout New England. New Haven Railroad EP-2, EP-3, and EP-4 electric locomotives would have been a common sight here, sporting this paint scheme as they raced trains out from the terminal.
