Emergency Response. On the night of December 1, 2017, Norfolk Southern SD60E 911 led train 28N into Binghamton, New York, seen here passing the former Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railway station and the "JC 214" milepost, denoting 214 miles from Jersey City, New Jersey. The locomotive would be used the next day to lead the Capital Region Toys For Tots Train from Binghamton to Schenectady, but its assignment was a last minute arrangement. Next to "Honoring First Responders" are three logos representing EMS, Police, and Fire Supression. I revisited this previously unpublished photo today in memory of the great night photographer Gary Knapp, who recently passed away. Gary was a modern master of off camera flash photography, and an inspiration to many in the field.
A recent spike in a personal interest of the skill and work it takes to create and ultimately nail a shot in the dark using flash technology, leads to this album.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
