Subway to the Suburbs.
Beneath the bustle of Center City Philadelphia, a Port Authority Transit Corp. (PATCO) train is preparing to depart 9th-10th & Locust Station, with just one more stop before crossing the Delaware River into New Jersey. Car 1102 is the lead unit on this train, one of a fleet of 120 operated by the agency. The fleet was manufactured in two batches, known as PATCO I and PATCO II cars, by Budd in 1968 and by Canadian Vickers in 1980, respectively. The cars were refurbished by Alstom from 2013 - 2019, and the original car numbers were not maintained.
Two rapid transit lines, PATCO and PATH, take commuters to Philadelphia and New York, respectively. Metro North locomotives and rolling stock often show up on NJ Transit northern lines and SEPTA terminates routes in Trenton and West Trenton.
